His best seller novel Amruta (1965) brought him immense fame, proving his preparedness as an author and “Uparwaas-Sahwaas-Antarwaas” (1975) - a colorful documentary novel trilogy about the social changes in the aftermath of the Indian independence - established him nationally as a prominent writer, winning him prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award (1977).
